At Evesham Place Dental we have an experienced team of Dentists, Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists to help you care for your gums.

What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, known as gingivitis, is a very common condition where the gums become swollen, bleed and infected. Most adults in the UK will have had or have gingivitis at some point in their lives. The good news is, is that gingivitis is completely treatable.

Untreated gingivitis can in some people, lead to a condition called periodontitis. This affects the tissues and bone that hold your teeth in place. If periodontitis is not treated, it can cause irreversible damage to these tissues supporting your teeth causing them to become loose. Once periodontitis has reached this advanced stage it can become more difficult to treat.

How is Gum Disease treated at Evesham Place Dental?

Our dedicated team of hygienists & therapists will complete a full periodontal (gum) examination and devise a tailored treatment plan with you to help stabilise any gum disease. The appointments will involve tailored oral hygiene advice suited to your needs, any cleaning of tartar & stain, any appropriate review appointments. We advise long term maintenance with our hygienists/ therapists. Prevention is better than cure!

What causes Gum Disease?

During your dental examination, your dentist at Evesham Place Dental will carry out a screening and assessment of your gums to look for signs of gum disease. If necessary, simple scales and polishes can sometimes be carried out during your examination. If the dentist feels further treatment is required, they will recommend an appointment with one of our hygienists or therapists. This appointment will involve removal of all plaque and tartar from your teeth. You will also be given thorough instructions on how to remove plaque successfully yourself at home. These instructions are tailored uniquely to each individual patient. This may take a number of sessions with our dental team.  Maintaining excellent oral hygiene at home is so important and successfully treating gum disease is a joint effort between you and our dental team.

Stubborn staining that you don't like the look of?

Airflow Polishing is a hygiene treatment that effectively removes stains on the front and back of teeth. The procedure works by using a fine jet of compressed air, water and fine powder particles to remove staining caused by coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and some mouthwashes. This treatment can be done alone or added to your usual hygiene appointment. Just let one of our reception team know you would like it when you book your appointment.

Stubborn staining that you don't like the look of?

We also offer 'Direct Access' appointments where you can come and see one of our team for hygiene treatment without the need to be registered with us or see a dentist first.
